MOTD : OSCARS w/ Mona

Here are Mona's Yays and Nays of
the MOTDs at the Oscars.

Yay:
Olivia Wilde glows here with a great top wing only eye liner, something I think will really take off this year. She's known for her almond eyes, and with all the drama on the top lid, she's creating the illusion of a more open eye.

The skin here is fresh, with a great highlighter/bronzer combo which accentuates her pregnancy glow. A pale peach lippie seals the deal.

Yikes:
Naomi Watts looks a little over contoured here. The goal is to look like a subtley sculpted version of oneself, not paint another face on.

Yay:
Margot Robbie looks fantastic and proves once again that bold makeup requires a good brow. Note that her brows are not oddly ombred, just filled slightly darker to reflect her hair color change.

A lovely deep scarlet lip is a nice touch, and her sculpted cheeks add sophistication to her babyface.

Yikes:
Sandra Bullock is a bit overdone to me. Her heavy eyes and oppresively pink cheeks make her look a bit cakey. Her small eye size does not require such heavy liner to create a dramatic smokey eye. Add in the heavy nose contour leading directly into her brows and this look is a mess.

Yay:
Emma Watson shines with her romantic look. The blush effect here is wonderful. Use a lighter matte bronzer in the low plains of the face, followed by a brick blush. Brighten the top of the cheek bones with a neutral highlighter applied with a fan brush or really gentle touch.

Watson also gets it right with her orangey-red lips. Blue reds are not for everyone, it takes a few tries to get it right.

Yikes:
Laura Dern usually shines on the red carpet, but her makeup here looks casket ready. Too light, too matte, too bad. The lack of dimension in her lower face leads to her mouth appearing drawn and her lips less lucious. Love the dress though.

Yay:
Ireland Baldwin looks fantastic! Her skin is fresh and not over contoured, the lipcolor subtle, and the highlighting flawless.

Her brows are filled for definition without appearing drawn on. To get the same effect at home try using a powder rather than pencil.

Yikes:
Jada Pinkett-Smith's MUA should be rapped on the knuckles with a blender brush for this gaffe with the undereye concealer. The harsh lines of demarcation are causing Pinkett-Smith's eyes to retreat. Add that to a completely unblended blush bronzer combo, and this is a mess!

Nude lipsticks are hard to pin down sometimes, and this one is a miss. Where have Pinkett-Smith's lips gone? This color is too pale to compete with the travesty of the bronzer in this look.

Yay:
It's good to see Kerry Washington taking some risks with her makeup. This dark lip is a homerun with the simplicity of the rest of her ensemble. Her grecian Jason Wu dress is a winner, and with her hair pulled from her face, a little drama is definitely needed.

The bold berry lip is given room to be juicy because the contouring is not intrusive. You need the areas of highlight to offset the hollows of the cheeks, otherwise it's a waste of product and time.

I also adore her simple eye makeup here. Not every look requires an intense cut crease and shimmer highlighter.

Yikes:
John Legend's new bride Chrissy Teigen looks about 15 years older here because of ultra tragic contouring and the wrong shade of foundation. Bold cheeks, bold eyes, bold lips, bold dress, and bold drop earrings.
Oh no.

She looks like a 10th grade cotillion princess from upstate New York. Pick one or two points of drama for a look. The lip is too red for this dress. Not to say she should've chosen a matchy-matchy pink, but rather a plum or nude would've been a little better.

That's all folks!
Keep a nice glow,
winged liner,
&
slow down on the bronzer.
